A new series of World’s Greatest Motorcycle Rides with Henry Cole starts on November 3rd 2015
Resident bike mad presenter Henry Cole is off on his travels again but this time there is unfinished business to attend to. Previously having had to leave his trusty stead, the Metisse Desert Racer, in northern South Africa, Henry is determined this time to get the old girl to the end of a trip and prove that there is nothing wrong with ‘Old British Metal’. Henry will return to the Balkans to travel through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia and ending in Bulgaria.
Although a long-serving presenter on the Travel Channel, Henry Cole is also CEO of his luxury motorbiking company Gladstone Motorcycles, who build their own bespoke British motorcycles. Alongside his business accomplishments Henry, was a war cameraman during the Balkans War and a director of many music documentaries and films.
Henry’s journey begins in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Coffee with a local celeb, tea with the mayor and a nosey round a castle will keep Henry occupied in this wonderful city but as ever the lure of the road is irresistible and the Croatian coast is there waiting to be explored. Throughout the series we follow Henry through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia and Bulgaria through historically rich locations with stunning scenery and roads, diverse cultures and great people.
When asked to recount an anecdote of this journey Henry said “It always sounds like a bit of a cliché to say that it is really hard to pick one location that blew me away but on this occasion that statement really is true. I had the privilege of travelling through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia and a little bit of Bulgaria and they were all brilliant in their very different ways.
Slovenia is a hidden gem, it really is. So few people know about this beautiful country and we barely touched the sides. Ljubljana, the capital, is now one of my favourite cities and that is saying something because I normally don’t like spending time in cities.
The Croatian coast is very much like Italy but with less traffic. Rugged, picturesque and packed full of history and some amazing roads to ride on – what more could an old biker like me want.”
“One thing stands out above all these incredible experiences and that is getting my beloved Metisse Steve McQueen desert racer from Ljubljana to Sofia. I let her down in South Africa by not preparing her properly but on this trip she didn’t miss a beat. It made an incredible experience even better”.
